I have an undergraduate degree in Geology from the Universidad de Concepción, Chile, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Geosciences from The University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ.

During my whole academic career, first as an assistant professor at the Institute for Applied Economic Geology (Instituto de Geología Económica Aplicada – GEA) at the University of Concepción, Chile, then as a graduate student and postdoc at the University of Arizona, and now as an associate professor at the University of Chile, I have focused most of my research on isotope geochemistry and geochronology as tools to understand the formation of ore deposits.

Geochemistry of Ore Deposits

I use a combination of field studies with a wide variety of analytical tools to understand the formation and evolution of ore deposits

The University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, USA

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD - Geosciences)

Thesis title: “Applications of the Re-Os isotopic system to the study of mineral deposits: Geochronology and source of metals”. Department of Geosciences, The University of Arizona, Arizona, USA. 211 p.

Isotope Geochemistry & Geochronology

I use isotope tracers and geochronological techniques to determine the source of materials (rocks and metals) and the timing of geological processes and events.

Andean Geology and Metallogenesis

I'm interested in the geologic evolution of the Chilean territory and how it relates to the different types of Andean ore deposits.

Applications of Inorganic Mass Spectrometry

I'm interested in the diverse applications of  MC-ICP-MS and LA-ICP-MS as an analytical tool not only applied to geological problems but also in other fields of science such as Ecology and Archeometry.

Master of Science (Geosciences)

Thesis title: “A Re-Os study of sulfide minerals from the Bagdad porphyry Cu-Mo deposit, northern Arizona, USA”. Department of Geosciences, The University of Arizona, Arizona, USA. 29 pp.

Universidad de Concepción, Chile

Bachelor of Science with Honors

Thesis title: “Estudio petrográfico de serpentinitas y mineralógico de cromitas del área de La Cabaña, Provincia de Cautín, IX Región, Chile”. Departamento de Ciencias de la Tierra, Universidad de Concepción, Chile. 183 pp.
